A WOMAN has been banned from entering a downtown clothing store where she assaulted a member of staff after ‘flirting’ with her colleague.

Abigale Prosser appeared in Worcester Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced for assault by beating and criminal damage to property on Thursday (November 10).

As previously reported, the 32-year-old went to Primark in Worcester city center on May 13 this year and started talking to a male salesman.

Sumreen Afsar, prosecuting, said: “She was asking uncomfortable questions, ‘are you gay’, ‘are you straight’.

“Another member of staff (Katie Hughes) told him to leave him alone.”

The prosecutor said Prosser suddenly started attacking Miss Hughes.

“She started attacking him, pulling his hair and grabbing his face,” Ms Afsar said.

“Several injured people were injured.

“The only reason she stopped was because a security guard intervened.”

At the sentencing hearing, Mark Hambling, prosecuting, again went over the details saying the aggrieved party had a torn blouse which exposed her chest.

He said the injuries sustained by the victim were “a bit more than superficial, but not extreme”.

Mr Hambling added that Prosser had a previous conviction, a criminal damages case in 2018.

Ian Parsons, defending, said a report carried out by the probation service covered the mental health issues she had, including anxiety and autism.

He explained in the incident that Prosser wanted to befriend the saleswoman she found attractive and reacted when she felt the victim interrupted their private conversation.

Richard Poppleton, chairman of the magistrates, said the report had “identified the problems you face”.

“This is clearly an unfortunate case,” the president said.

Magistrates tell Abigale Prosser she is banned from Primark for next year

Magistrates gave Prosser a one-year community order with 15 days of rehab activity she must complete.

Prosser, of Randwick Drive, Worcester, was ordered to pay £30 compensation for damage to the victim’s clothing and £50 compensation for the assault.

He was also told to pay a fee of £135 and a victim fine surcharge of £95.

The chairman added: “You are locked out of Primark for the duration of your community order.”
