Woman arrested after finding drugs in bag containing feminine products

A 46-year-old Umatilla woman has been arrested for drug trafficking after residues of methamphetamine and fentanyl were found in a bag containing feminine products during a traffic stop in Eustis.

Renee Lynn Switzer, of 30 Walkman St. Lot 30, was charged with possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was a passenger in a vehicle stopped by a Eustis police officer at 12:37 a.m. Friday for failing to stop behind a clearly marked stop bar on Woodward Avenue at Center Street, according to the police report.

The driver of the vehicle told the officer that he was trying to get to Lakeshore Drive but missed his turn and got lost. The officer noted that the vehicle had passed Eustis, Grove and Morin streets, which could have led the vehicle back to Lakeshore Drive. Another officer arrived as backup and asked the driver for permission to search the vehicle, which was granted, according to the report.

A K-9 officer arrived to assist in the search. In the back seat of the vehicle was a black bag containing a black digital scale with a white crystalline residue. Also in the bag was a small plastic container with latex gloves that had more white crystal-like residue. There were two syringes – one was used and the other had brown liquid in it. The crystalline residue tested positive for methamphetamine, while the brown substance tested positive for fentanyl. All of the illegal items were in a bag containing feminine products, according to the report.

Switzer admitted to owning the bag containing the illegal items. Asked about her drug use, she said she used methamphetamine and ingested it by “drilling” it into her vein with a needle. Switzer said the last time she used methamphetamine was about three days ago. She said she did not use heroin or fentanyl and did not know how it ended up in her business, according to the report.

Switzer was arrested and taken to the Eustis Police Department for booking and then to Lake County Jail. She is being held on $3,000 bail and will appear in Lake County court on June 6.
