Western and Uva walkers take first place


The 47th National Games were successfully concluded in Gampaha district with the participation of cyclists, walkers and marathoners.

The Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Department of Sports and Development jointly organized the 47th National Sports Tournament with the sponsorship of Nestle Lanka Company Limited.

All the competitions saw the participation of top athletes from all over the country who ultimately saw close finishes, especially in the cycling races. The women’s foot race saw competitors from 19 districts take part in the 20 kilometer race. This race was won by Kalhari Madrimaka of Western Province in one hour, 58 minutes and 67 seconds.

Interestingly, the men’s run saw participants from 37 districts qualify. The race was won by RD Rukmal from Uva province in a time of 1 hour, 34 minutes and 08 seconds.

Winner: Kalhari Madrimaka (West) 1:48m 67 Rs. 50,000/-

2nd place: Dinusha Dilhani (South) 1:53m 46 Rs. 40,000/-

3rd place: PB Gayani (South) 1: 57m 39 prize money Rs. 30,000/-
4th place: WHL Kalyani (South) 1: 59m 22 Prize money Rs.20,000/-
5th place: KMC Damayanthi (Uva) 2:04m 27 Prize money Rs. 18,000/-

Walk (Men)

Number of teams represented – 37 Districts – 20km

Winner: RD Rukmal (Uva) 1:34m 08 prize money Rs. 50,000/-

2nd place: HMS Ravindra Herat (North Center) 1:35m 51 Prize money Rs. 40,000/-
3rd place: Sadun Lakmal (North West) 1: 36m 52 Rs. 30,000/-

4th place: YS Wimalasuriya (south) 1: 40m 58 prize money Rs.20,000/-
5th place: Kumara Sampath (East) 1: 41m 03 Prize money Rs. 18,000/-
