Walk a Mile in Her Shoes returns and aims to end domestic violence

Residents can participate in the September 10 event by walking a mile in red high-heeled shoes to raise money for the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a community walk where the community leads the way in ending domestic violence by walking a mile in red high-heeled shoes.

The walk gives participants the opportunity to get their communities talking about a complex topic while raising awareness of the issue, providing opportunities for healing and demonstrating their willingness to walk with women and children as allies, defenders and survivors.

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Barrie will benefit local women and children affected by domestic violence and will be supported by the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie. Each year the fundraising goal is $50,000 and we hope that by being back in the heritage park in downtown Barrie we will reach our goal.

The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie relies heavily on community support and donations to be able to provide programs and services in Simcoe County. The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie has been providing a safe and secure haven for abused women and their children since 1981. We are a 27-bed facility offering 24-hour emergency and residential support. Funds raised at this event provide shelter, individual counselling, legal advocacy, housing transition services, a 24-hour crisis line, group support and public education programs, all with the goal of creating the best life for women fleeing violence.
