University of Ilorin Vice-Chancellor Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem and Silverbird Group Vice-President Guy Murray-Bruce were among 28 other recipients of the inaugural Nigeria’s Most Respected CEO Awards .
The awards ceremony, held in Abuja on Saturday, saw 30 personalities receiving awards in different categories.
Baroness Paulette Kporo, CEO of The Nigeria Business Executive Limited, told the Nigerian News Agency that the awards were designed to identify and publicly recognize the CEOs from each line of business and industry who were the most successful. considered and appreciated by various stakeholders.
Kporo said, “We have created a void in the reward system within the country’s business community.
“We felt then that there were many CEOs in Nigeria who had accomplished a lot in the different sectors in which they operated but who were not well celebrated.”
She explained that the winners in each category were chosen by the general public, adding that the selection process was very comprehensive.
A cross section of the award winners who spoke to NAN on the sidelines of the event expressed their joy at being recognized as the best among an elite group of other outstanding CEOs across the country.
Patience Madlion, CEO of the Shedrack Madlion Foundation, said her zeal to become the best in the field was born out of her late husband’s passion.
Madlion said: “Shedrack Madlion was my husband.
“I unfortunately lost him in 2018 because of the kidnappers on the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
“During his lifetime, he was the voice of Agriculture.
“He championed replacing aging farmers with young farmers.
“So when he passed away, I felt I had to take up the challenge and I was able to empower over 22,000 women around the world through my NGO. “
Halifa Rabiu, CEO of Halba Plastic and Recycling Company Limited, said it was a great and exciting feeling for young CEOs like him to be recognized.
Rabiu said, “It is good to know that there are people who see and appreciate our small contribution to the growth and development of the country.
“I am working very hard and intend to take this recycling business to the next level in Nigeria.
“We plan to export the waste from Nigeria overseas, both to the United States and other European countries in the near future.”
Obinna Onungwa, CEO of Cargoworth Alliance Logistics Limited, said the award was a testament to her hard work in the industry, stressing that her watchword was persistence and integrity.
Onungwa said, “We are in freight transportation, freight and logistics and therefore we do not take lightly the trust our customers place in us to deliver.
“The business can be quite difficult even though, and most of the time, it is government policies that affect the industry.
“But we are doing our best and hope the economy will continue to improve so that our business can continue to grow.”
