Stay classic
Among the weird and wonderful accessories that emerged at the shows were a range of classic bag shapes to get excited about. Prada’s Re-Edition 1995 tote bag – a modern update on a 90s style, available in gloss black or letterbox red – is one such piece. “Customers are looking for longevity and investing in classic, timeless pieces,” says Gramston, who has noticed a growing demand for bullion products at Browns.
Net-a-porter.com customers anticipate. Page reports that shoppers are looking for pieces with timeless appeal that will “retain value for years to come and become eligible for resale.” “Customers are definitely spending more on bullion pieces across all categories — they’re buying quality items at higher prices that they can wear and cherish, now and forever,” she adds.
Higher level
“The very high platform was a spring star,” notes De Sole. Top stompers include Valentino Garavani’s Tan-Gos, Saint Laurent’s Paloma Picasso-inspired patent Kika heels, Silky and imposing yigit by Amina Muaddi strappy shoes and wedges from Versace. (Ingram reveals that Team Threads is “obsessed” with the latter.)
Proof that the platforms are here to stay? Net-a-porter.com shopped over 50 styles from platforms across 18 brands, including celebrity-endorsed D’Accori. “We’ve seen the return of head-turning platforms, bringing a whole new level of drama,” Page says.
craft history
Designers have gotten savvy for Spring/Summer 2022, delivering accessories well-suited to beaches and city parks. “Crochet, quilting, raffia and fringe on bags or even shoes really define the essence of summer accessories,” Hsu muses.
Craftsmanship has always been central to Matchesfashion.com. “Our client really connects with crafted design,” says Smart. “It was great to see that come to fruition on the slopes.”
Prada’s best-selling raffia tote bags are back for another season, in delightful pastel hues – the lilac colorway is on Ingram’s wishlist. Gabriela Hearst, meanwhile, unveiled a range of woven accessories both under her eponymous line and at Chloé, which Page says will “have you dreaming of your next seaside getaway.” Page and Gramston agree that JW Anderson’s knitted tote, which comes in rainbow stripes and its juicy strawberry pattern, will be another seasonal hit.
Sandals – with a twist
Sandals got a funky update this season. Chunky rubber sandals have popped up across the board – they’re the “cool girl’s shoe choice”, according to Gramston – courtesy of Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, Prada and Gucci.
Lace-up sandals are back, says De Sole, who shouts Valentino Garavani’s Rockstud sandals and The Row horn ballet flats as essential.
Team vogue was also delighted to learn of Manolo Blahnik’s collaboration with Birkenstock, which – as expected – was a sell-out success. There are still a few models available from retailers and resale sites such as Vestiaire Collective. To be fast!
