Everything that shines
Tiffany Hsu, vice president of women’s and children’s apparel buying at Mytheresa.com, calls the sequin craze a “sign of hope.” The retail platform has been betting big on embellished bags and shoes this season.
It’s a similar story to Matchesfashion.com. Womenswear manager Cassie Smart says embellished accessories give customers a “sense of joy and escape,” feelings we’ve longed for during the pandemic. At Browns, the steady holiday return has sparked a desire for “full-throttle glamour,” reports Heather Gramston, womenswear buying manager.
The fashion pack covets Mach & Mach’s jewel-embellished shoes. “Eye-catching crystals and playful silhouettes are our customers’ favorites,” reveals Rickie de Sole, director of womenswear and editorial at Nordstrom. “With the return of dressing, we’re ditching our sneakers and grabbing our evening shoes.”
At Threads Styling, “all the crystal flies,” according to editor Rachel Ingram. Prada’s crystallized belt bag and Sequined bags by Benedetta Bruzziches are some of the most sought after pieces.

Of all the accessories that graced the Spring/Summer 2022 runways, Jonathan Anderson’s surreal shoes at Loewe stole the show. Libby Page, Market Editor at Net-a-porter.com, said the designer’s artistic shoes, complete with cracked eggs, nail polish and faded roses as heels, will become “pieces of fashion history. Ingram notes that buyers are moving away from “traditional” investments and towards more daring purchases. “We’ve seen an increase in investment pieces, from handbags to shoes, especially in bold, bold choices,” says De Sole.
On Net-a-porter.com, the team dedicated its Go For Bold Spring/Summer 2022 campaign to “striking silhouettes and vibrant accessories,” Page shares, highlighting Bottega Veneta’s racerback green. intrecciato The Jodie bag as a bestseller.
Among the weird and wonderful accessories that emerged at the shows were a range of classic bag shapes to get excited about. Prada’s Re-Edition 1995 tote bag– a modern update on a 90s style, available in gloss black or letterbox red – is one such piece. “Customers are looking for longevity and investing in classic, timeless pieces,” says Gramston, who has noticed a growing demand for bullion products at Browns.
