Tejas-Olivia emerges mixed doubles champion, Suraj and Praneeth claim men’s doubles crown

PANJIM: Tejas Shevde and Olivia Chowgule became mixed doubles champions, while Suraj Bikkannavar-Praneeth Venugopal won the men’s doubles title at the 2022 Gadre Gaspar Dias Open tennis championships being held on the courts of Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias- Miramar and Panjim Gymkhana.

In the mixed doubles final, Tejas and Olivia picked up an easy 6-1, 6-0 win over the combined Santosh/Melanie Chowgule. Goa’s top players Tejas and Olivia, who have already won the U-16 women’s title, will be in action in their respective men’s and women’s singles finals in the final matches of the 11-day tennis championships.

Olivia, who is in search of the triple crown, will face Ritika Dawalkar of Kolhapur in the final. Earlier in the semis, Ritika, who is also the U-12 champion, dismantled Rebecca George with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.

Tejas’ final singles opponent Praneeth Venugopal of Bangalore meanwhile claimed the men’s doubles crown by partnering Suraj Bikkanavar in a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 triumph over the Kafil Kadvekar duo. / Ashwin Narsinghani.

Ashwin managed to lift the U-16 boys trophy, however, with a stunning 6-2, 6-0 win over Saiel Gajinkar in the title clash.
