Actress Tamannaah Bhatia took off her shoes while lighting the ceremonial lamp during the opening night of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne Awards (IFFM) 2022. Taking to Instagram, a fan account shared a video of the ‘event. Besides Tamannaah, actor Taapsee Pannu and director Anurag Kashyap were also on stage. In the clip, after Taapsee lit part of the lamp, she called Tamannaah to do the same. The actor then took off his shoes and came forward to light the lamp. As a woman nearby appreciated her gesture, Tamannaah said, “It’s just a South Indian tradition.” Tamannaah then turned on the barefoot lamp. For the event, Taapsee wore an all-black ensemble with matching heels. Tamannaah opted for a green and black dress and heels.

Reacting to the video of Tamannaah shared on Instagram, one fan said, “Respect for culture.” Another person commented, “That’s what South taught her…” “Wow the little things matter…a big gesture from Tamannaah,” one comment read. “She shows her culture, India’s rich heritage, bless you Tamannaah,” another fan wrote.



Recently, the Melbourne Indian Film Festival announced the award winners for its 13th edition. Shoojit Sircar for Sardar Udham and Aparna Sen for The Rapist won Best Director. Ranveer Singh won Best Actor for 83 and Shefali Shah won Best Actress for Jalsa. 83 by Kabir Khan received the award for best film. The festival was also attended by Abhishek Bachchan, Vaani Kapoor, Nikkhil Advani, Sona Mohapatra, Suresh Triveni and former cricketer Kapil Dev among others.



Tamannaah will next be seen in Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming film, Babli Bouncer. The film is set to release on September 23 this year on Disney+ Hotstar in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Babli Bouncer is presented as a come-of-age feel-good story with a slice-of-life comic tone set in the true “city of bouncers” in North India – Asola Fatepur. Tamannaah will try out for the role of Babli Bouncer. Produced by Star Studios and Junglee Pictures, Babli Bouncer also stars Saurabh Shukla, Abhishek Bajaj and Sahil Vaid in key roles.
