Road to 2023: Yahaya Bello able to wear MKO Abiola political shoes

A Leadership and Mentorship Instructor, Prof Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr, said All Progressive Congress (APC) 2023 Presidential contender, Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB) of Kogi State is able to wear political shoes of the late politician and tycoon business, Chief MKO Abiola.

To this end, Prof. Nwaokobia Jnr, applauded Hafsat Abiola, daughter of MKO Abiola, for describing and comparing the GYB Hope movement with that of her father of blessed memory.

Professor Nwaokobia, in a press release made available to journalists, said Hafsat is always known to be brave, smart and outspoken.

He said Hafsat and his siblings bear the gravest and most significant scars of the June 12 struggle and as such understand his father’s struggle and cannot be decried by anyone for his support for the governor. Yahaya Bello.

Part of the statement reads as follows; “The Hafsat that I know is never inclined to play the lackey of an opportunistic thief and is never a troublemaker. So to those who have ears, let them hear.

“And I have to add that we know Hafsat Abiola-Costello, we know his pedigree, we know his passion, we know his fight, we know his beliefs and we know his tenacity, so we’re not going to let any non-starter spoil it. ”.

“She knows her onion and she is worth every pint and pinch of her salt. She knows the Abiola phenomenon, she knew her Father, she became an orphan of the Struggle having lost her mother, Kudirat Abiola first to Abacha infamy, and her father MKO Abiola later. She and her siblings bear the gravest and biggest scars of the June 12 struggle, and she insists the dream she lost both parents for will not die. She is almost 5 decades old, she is lucid and sagacious, so dart throwers can do some soul-searching and introspection”.

“She couldn’t have compared GYB with MKO for nothing, she has her facts, and they are beyond tales and beer hall fools. Both of her parents were martyrs for democracy, and she insists that their martyrdom will not be in vain, that HOPE must resonate once again, and with GYB Nigeria is on the march again. Do you remember that famous song from the HOPE 93 campaign? If you know, you know”.

“If you don’t know GYB, you might not know the one before him, MKO was 56 when he sought the high office of President with the mantra Hope ’93. GYB is ten years younger, At age 46, GYB launched its Aso Rock movement to seek the high office of President with the mantra Hope 2023 Bridging The Gap. Yes 56 and 46”.

“MKO was a chartered accountant and a business tycoon. GYB is a Chartered Accountant and Business Tycoon. MKO was one of the main financiers of the defunct NPN which was the center party of the Second Republic. And GYB is one of the main financiers and the Shield of the Party in the center the APC, here the word ‘shield’ is not mine but that of the President of the Senate Senator Ahmed Lawan. He called GYB the shield of APC.

“MKO was a great philanthropist and lover of humanity. He was the Pillar of Sport in Africa. And motivation for the Nigerian youth team. GYB is a philanthropist and leader with a heart of gold. He is a tremendous sports fan and supporter of sports in Nigeria. His person and his ambition have attracted the greatest support from Nigerian sportsmen and it is instructive. And Kogi State over the past two years has hosted more top Nigerian sportsmen than any other state in Nigeria. Should I also state here that GYB leads the highest youth inclusive government in Nigeria today. As MKO would have done, GYB does.

“MKO had a thing for women and indeed women, just like GYB. In addition to having married more than two wives, they both believe in the competence of female homo sapiens. They empower women and they totally believe in their skills and abilities. MKO entrusted his wives with running some of his businesses, as did GYB. And even more remarkable is the fact that Governor Yahaya Bello GYB leads the government with the highest gender parity in Nigeria. GYB has empowered more women than any governor or government in Nigeria today.

“MKO was brave, stubborn and sagacious, just like GYB. MKO pioneered and deepened the call for reparation (that the West should not only return stolen wealth to Africa, but materially atone for the evils of slavery), and GYB has consistently advocated for the ‘Africa looks inward, remembers its position on the COVID-19 pandemic and related issues. MKO was a maverick, as was GYB.

“In their politics, they were/are both wealthy men who supported their political parties, who seeing the political drift if you will, chose to jump into the fray by running for office. MKO pioneered the HOPE mantra in 1992/1993 and in 2022/2023 it is the resurgence of HOPE and the HOPE mantra by GYB.

“MKO has suffered and paid the supreme price for believing that a new Nigeria is possible. He fought for the mandate given to him on June 12, 1993 and was unwilling to settle for less. GYB is leading the battle and whatever beer bar stories from naysayers and critics, he says the great progress and achievements in Kogi State will speak for him. He says his achievements in the fields of security, agriculture, health, infrastructure, financial and fiscal discipline, job creation, etc. will speak for him. And that Youth and Women will not overlook the most gender- and youth-friendly candidate when we go to the polls. And God willing, HOPE will not die this time.

“Hafsat Abiola-Costello was not only right, she was conservative in her comparison of the two larger-than-life phenomena that are better known by their initials, MKO and GYB. Hafsat Abiola-Costello is eminently qualified to make her choices, like Hafsat, I Chris Mustapha Nwaokobia Jnr. a lawyer and political activist who fought with many others for the June 12 actualization and the HOPE that MKO embodied has since endorsed GYB’s candidacy for the high office of President in 2023”.
