New Austin boutique kicks off with designer shoes and wine lounge
It’s a new year, so why not take action to spruce up your wardrobe ahead of the pandemic? But just because you’re shopping for shoes doesn’t mean you can’t squeeze in a little luxury – and maybe a few chic sips.
Starting Monday, January 10, Austinites can relax with a glass of wine while shopping at Blue Suede, a new boutique and lounge for women in South Austin.
The aptly named Blue Suede promises a variety of women’s designer shoes and accessories in a warm and inviting space at 1600 S. First St. The Goal, according to store owners and co-founders Jennifer Parkman and Cynthia. McMillioan, is to take the pressure off shoe shopping – no more awkward conversations with salespeople looking for the right size – while creating an experience as chic as the store’s luxurious shoes.
Blue Suede customers will have a variety of shoe sizes on hand to try on at their leisure, while enjoying a drink and light snacks from some of Austin’s best food and beverage vendors, available in the lounge. on site of the shop.
The lounge offers beer and cider from Austin Beerworks and Austin Eastciders, as well as red, white, rosé and sparkling wines. Customers can also order cheese platters with Antonelli cheese and coffee from Austin Roasting Company and Giddy Up cold brew.
The 1,500-square-foot shoe store took inspiration from Parkman’s favorite Chicago shoe store, with Blue Suede aiming to provide women with accessibility to a wide variety of top shoe brands and sizes in a space that encourages customers to rejuvenate, relax and catch up with friends from tons of chic deals, which also include unique jewelry and handbags.
“I’ve spent a lot of time over the years sharing my idea with friends, asking them, ‘Shoes plus wine, right?’ and the answer has always been “Yes! “It’s something that I’m very proud to finally bring to life,” Parkman said. “We have worked hard to make the atmosphere at Blue Suede warm and comfortable, hoping to encourage guests to stay a while and enjoy it. “
While wine and finger food, fashion accessories and handpicked works of art (including works created by female artists exhibited alongside the Andy Warhol-inspired “Shoes” wallpaper and a locally made custom neon sign) are certainly a draw, it’s the wealth of shoe brands that will likely bring local shoppers in flock.
Blue Suede features remarkable shoe designers such as Dolce Vita, Seychelles, Matisse, Donald Pliner, Yellow Box, Tamaris, etc. And the South Austin boutique is the exclusive carrier in town for sought-after shoe brands like Jeffrey Campbell and select styles of Valentina, personally purchased in Italy.
“It has been amazing to see Blue Suede move from a simple vision to the unique and creative space that it is now,” said McMillioan. “We are so grateful to have an incredibly talented team who have helped make this a reality. We’ve made every effort to carefully prepare every aspect of the experience, from the art to the wine and, of course, the shoes.
The showroom and the salon of the boutique are open Monday to Thursday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Follow Blue Suede on Instagram for more details and updates.
