Does the new bag policy for Knott’s Spooky Farm discriminate against women?

[ad_1]

We recently reported that Knott’s Berry Farm has announced that its new Under 18 Companion Policy will be in place for each night of the upcoming Knott’s Scary Farm event which begins September 22 and runs select nights through October 31. 2022. With that, they also announced that they have added a new bag policy for the event.

It is now stated very clearly in the KNOTT’S BERRY FARM CODE OF CONDUCT that “Guests will not be permitted to bring bags larger than 6.5″ x 4.5″ x 2″ into the park, including purses, backpacks, or diaper bags during Operation Scary Farm. All bags will be searched prior to entry.”

Now, this new bag policy has caused quite a stir with many guests who are struggling to figure out how they will be able to take their essentials with them to the event in a bag with maximum measurements of 6.5″ x 4 .5″ x 2″.

A concerned reader contacted us to say:

“Knott’s Berry Farm released tickets for Knott’s Scary Farm yesterday. The original Halloween event that is enjoyed by many people, both locals and visitors. However, for many of us there was a unexpected problem which considerably dampened our enthusiasm.

Knott has a bag policy in place for all Scary Farm events, but the bag allowed (6.5″ x 4.5″ x 2″) is so small that women now have a hard time figuring out how to bring even their Absolute essentials to the event. It’s no secret that most fashions don’t give women practical and secure pockets that can be closed securely.

Women are now measuring their phones, sanitary products, medicines, valid IDs, keys, etc. to find out how to put everything away. Of course, this completely ignores the items we’d like to bring like makeup to keep us fresh throughout the night, hand sanitizer, tissues, power bank to ensure your phone doesn’t run out of battery, the storage for any drinks or snacks you may purchase via evening etc.”

This has understandably caused concern for some guests and, to our knowledge, no bag policy has been in place at Knott’s Scary Farm event in the past:

“As far as I know, there hasn’t been a strict policy regulating the size of bags like this before. Last year, there were a lot of people with medium backpacks, mini backpacks backpacks (like Loungefly bags), shoulder bags, etc.”

While we understand Knott’s Berry Farm’s decision to implement a bag policy in the interest of safety, this leads people to ask, should there be such a restrictive bag policy in place at Knott’s Scary Farm and does this new bag policy for Knott’s Scary Farm discriminate against women?

The reader who reached out to us went on to say:

“Of course, overall it’s a small problem, but it can’t be ignored that this new policy hits women harder than men. And for my part, I don’t want to depend on bringing a man with me just for its convenient pockets. I just shouldn’t have to. After searching online for hours, I haven’t even found a single bag yet that would hold both my necessary items and meet the new Knott’s policy.

Knott’s Berry Farm has yet to comment on the growing concerns of its female fans, but dearly hope that with enough exposure, they will agree to make some adjustments.”

We are aware that it is not just women who could be affected by this, for any guest who usually decides to bring a range of items they need to the event, they now have to make a decision on what ‘We have to do.

We guess there’s a good reason Knott’s Berry Farm has this strict bag policy in place. After researching Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights, there doesn’t appear to be a bag policy in place, so this seems unusual. We have contacted Knott’s Berry Farm to ask about the reasoning behind their decision and are awaiting their response.
