Andrew Levitt is in Spokane, Washington waiting for opening night on stage.

Levitt starred in the nationwide tour of the Tony Award-winning musical “Hairspray,” where he played Edna Turnblad.

This isn’t Levitt’s first time on the national stage. In Season 11 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Levitt captured the hearts of viewers with his drag character Nina West. During the season, he was named Miss Congeniality.

“The truth is, it’s the biggest challenge and the greatest joy to put these shoes on,” says Levitt. “Obviously, the original Broadway version had Harvey Fierstein and both films had Divine and John Travolta in the same role as me. My goal was precisely to leave my mark there. What I learned thanks to Nina West , is that we need the audience to believe that this is a real woman. I learned how to create a character and make it seem real. Edna really belongs to me.

“Hairspray” will open its six-performance stand at Popejoy Hall starting Thursday, October 6.

“Hairspray” tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a teenager with big hair and big dreams.

Andrew Levitt (aka Nina West)

Despite the objections of her stay-at-home mom, Edna, Tracy becomes an overnight sensation when her dance moves land her a role on “The Corny Collins Show”, a teen dance show on local television.

Soon, she is campaigning to be on the all-white “The Corny Collins Show” and ends up breaking color barriers.

Levitt says being part of the musical, you have to be prepared to get your hands dirty.

“We are not doing well as a nation to put it mildly,” he said. “The only program on the show is for people to be celebrated as themselves. It helps celebrate all of our differences. ‘Hairspray’ is a great giveaway and I hope people see the beauty of it.

Since the start of the national tour, Levitt has not taken a moment for granted and clings to the lessons he learned from Edna.

“I identify with Edna,” he says. “I’m a bigger guy and I’m aware of my own weight and I really like it, just like she does. I can have this physical transformation from the inside out every night. In the beginning you see Edna and she’s simple ” Then she comes out of this giant cocoon and loves herself. It turns me on every night. I learned to understand my value.

Levitt says being on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” has helped open many doors.

One of them is part of “Hairspray”, which he will be part of until June 2023, when his contract will be finished.

“I’m about to release a children’s book about kindness,” he says. “Of course, I’ve had the Nina West Foundation for years giving back to the community. It’s a lot of fun and it’s to celebrate.

With the fashion capital back in business for a few seasons post-pandemic, Paris Fashion Week’s Spring 23 season looks set to be one of its busiest, with major brands continuing the tradition of celebrity-filled shows and small brands rushing to reconnect with the industry IRL.

Big shows like Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Balmain, Balenciaga, Valentino and Chanel will continue to frame the week with blockbuster shows that are sure to accompany big celebrity moments. But emerging talent will also reappear more prominently. And there will be parties.

Check back here for all the updates on shoes, parties and more from Paris Fashion Week.

Christian Dior’s show at the Tuileries ignites an infinity of photo shoots

Aside from screaming fans erupting at the sight of celebrities such as Cha Eun-woo, Iris Law, Grace Van Patten, Alessandra Daddario and many (many) others, Dior’s Spring/Summer 23 show at the Tuileries Gardens in Paris on Tuesday provided what must have been one of the biggest gatherings of influencers (and wannabes) looking for a photoshoot against the gigantic tents. The scene was not all superficial, however: a group of women associated with the “Don’t Be Old Be Bold” movement took the opportunity to demonstrate from the show and even invited Maye Musk to participate. Curiously absent from both the stage and the (generally feminist) track were messages surrounding the protest against the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran.

Nike’s Air Max was a breakthrough that turned heads in the sneaker industry. The cutting-edge design, which was first launched in 1987, still controls the majority of the shoe scene. Over the years, this creative design has been introduced in a number of new models, the most recent of which was the Air Max Scorpion.

The label at the Swoosh is now set to unveil an all-new “Phantom” colorway for the silhouette.

The soon-to-be-approached “Phantom” colorway of the Nike Air Max Scorpion hits shelves on October 5 at 7:30 p.m. These limited-edition soft-toned shoes will be available in men’s and women’s sizes.

Readers can easily purchase these pairs from Nike’s SNKRS online websites and other authorized retailers.

Over the past 35 years, the Swoosh team has expanded the Air Max line, creating many additional models over the technology’s existence. The company is also introducing the Air Max Scorpion for 2022, a lifestyle option that will be heading to the fashion world in October this year.

Even though the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak is behind us, its effects are still being felt. The Air Max Scorpion, the company’s most experimental design, padded with exposed Air units and the only silhouette to be created entirely during the pandemic, was officially introduced by Nike Inc. in 2021.

A new product often goes through a long development process that can last up to two years, involving the production of several prototypes all over the world. The staff at Swoosh shortened the development period of the latest Air Max to just 18 months while building this bold cushioning system.

The description of the new Air Max Scorpion sneakers on the brand’s webpage reads as follows:

“We asked Nike’s diviner what your future holds. The answer? All comfort. Built around the concept of ‘point loading’ (translation: great responsiveness, better feeling and improved cushioning), the Air Max Scorpion opens a new chapter in the book of shoe magic.

These shoes are also referred to as a Lemon Wash colorway (Image via Sportskeeda)

When describing the Air Max Scorpion, released for the 35th anniversary of the Air Max 1, it’s hard to know where to begin. The sleek “Phantom” colorway of the Flyknit upper, which takes inspiration from the Air VaporMax, is interrupted by a Black Swoosh that runs through the medial and lateral sidewalls.

From the tip of the toes to the heel counters, the Light Cream mudguards completely encircle the shoe. Of course, the little pull tab on the heel tab features a braille-style Nike emblem.

The sneakers are completed with the extremely thick Max Air midsoles, without which the description of the Air Max Scorpion would be incomplete. The end product is a truly stunning color, complemented with lemon wash tints.

Don’t miss these upcoming Air Max Scorpion “Phantom” sneakers set to release on October 5, 2022. Made in men’s and women’s sizes, these sneakers will retail for $250.

One can also sign up to Nike’s official website for timely updates on this pair as they will be sold through the brand’s SNKRS app.

What can we learn about America by looking at our shoes?

Particularly women’s shoes: Mary Janes, T-straps, stilettos, peep-toes, laces, sling-backs, sandals, boudoir slippers. More than 100 pairs of shoes spanning the past 184 years are on display at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania.

“Shoes can tell us a lot about identity, social history, political history and women’s history,” said chief curator Laura Turner Igoe. “They are also beautiful and fabulous objects. They can tell us a lot about design and craftsmanship in this country.

Laura Turner Igoe, chief curator of the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, discovers her favorite pair of shoes in the exhibition “Walk This Way; Shoes from the Stuart Weitzman collection. Weitzman designed the Diamanté pumps inspired by the Chrysler Building. (Emma Lee/WHY)

The shoes come from the collection of Stuart Weitzman, the famous shoe designer who became a major philanthropist in Philadelphia. Three buildings bear his name: the National Museum of American Jewish History, the School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, and the future annex of the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts at Penn.

Weitzman is based in Connecticut and an alumnus of Penn’s Wharton School of Business. “Walk This Way” was originally organized by the New-York Historical Society. This show at the Michener is in its second edition.

A glass display case holds a pair of red lace-up boots next to a sign with words on it.

Weitzman started collecting decades ago at the request of his wife, Jane Gershon Weitzman, when she started gifting him some interesting shoes.

“What do you give a partner over time, you know?” said Igoe. “She decided that shoes, historic shoes, would be the way to go. She selected shoes that are either really unusual or exciting in their design.

A row of decorative heels, without the rest of the shoe, are shown.

The oldest pair of shoes dates from 1838, a pair of silk wedding slippers. Who made them and who married there is unknown. An attentive visitor may notice that there is no distinction between left and right. Both shoes in the pair have the exact same shape, disregarding the arch of the foot.

The most recent shoes include Weitzman’s ostentatious Million Dollar Shoes, a glamorous pair of high-heeled sandals set with 464 real diamonds, made for actress Laura Harring for the 2002 Oscars. Weitzman later created a version for the market detail set with crystals instead of diamonds, which Michener visitors will see.

Between these historical bookends reveal the development of American women’s footwear, which follows the evolution of the American woman, herself.

In the early 20th century, during a campaign for suffrage and the right to vote, the hems of skirts rose from the floor to above the ankle, making it easier both to walk down the street and, later, to dancing in clandestine bars. Shoes have become more visible and their style more important.

The Kiwanis Club of Montclair, a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization, is hosting a sneaker/athletic shoe/work and hiking shoe fundraiser this year. Every penny raised will be returned to Montclair High graduates in the form of scholarships.

Last year, the club ran a similar campaign and raised nearly $1,000. This year, the goal is even higher and the club hopes to raise at least $1,500.

Here’s how it works: Instead of throwing away your lightly worn sneakers (no holes or tears), athletic shoes with plastic or rubber soles (no metal cleats), work and hiking boots (no rain, rubber or fashion boots) and block them. a landfill, you give them away for recycling. There are collection bins at every school in Montclair as well as City Hall, Cycle Bar, Watchung Bookstores, Fleet Feet, YMCA, Paper Plane Coffee Company and TD Bank in Lackawanna Square. Tie the shoes together to keep them as a pair. The club must collect a minimum of 700 pairs of sneakers, athletic shoes, work and hiking boots.

The club then sells the donated shoes to a California-based company, the Fundraising Company (https://thefundraisingcompany.com), which pays $1.50 a pound. The Fundraising Company then ships the shoes overseas – mostly to Africa – where entrepreneurs, mostly women, refurbish the shoes and resell them.

It’s an incredible win-win-win. You get rid of your unwanted clutter that doesn’t end up in a landfill. The Kiwanis Club of Montclair raises funds for scholarships for Montclair graduates, and Women Abroad recycle and resell the refurbished shoes.

When you do your fall shopping to replace sneakers, athletic shoes, work and hiking boots that your family has outgrown, please tie them together and donate them to the collection bins found at each school and in places around Montclair.

Milan Fashion Week is underway, with the city and the Italian fashion industry experiencing a huge resurgence after several years of intense challenges. Here are the main highlights from the Spring 2023 shoe presentations. Check back for more throughout the week.

Casadei

The brand has always looked to the future, from sustainability to digital innovation. And for Spring 23, Casadei takes it to the next level with an NFT to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its famous Blade heel. Call it Casadei 3.0. Every customer purchasing the NFT will be offered an avatar to play in the Decentraland metaverse platform. They can also redeem a physical shoe (only 1,000 pairs available) – a futuristic white pump that comes with an NFC tag embedded in the outsole. The Blade also continues to evolve IRL, with a bling-out version featuring a clear vinyl strap. An architectural heel of the collection is recalling the curves of the famous chair by Danish designer Verner Panton.

Rene Caovilla

Known for its glitzy and glamorous evening shoes, the brand is surfing on consumer demand for over-the-top looks. (Production is set to double to meet spring 2023 orders.) Its Studio 540-inspired collection includes a new hero style, the Diamond Sandal. Its artistic heel is inspired by the diamond-shaped crystals of the Venetian chandeliers that illuminate the Palazzo Ducale. The toe band and back straps are studded with the brand’s signature crystals. The brand also presents a trendy satin platform sandal with a square toe.

Rene Caovilla introduced his new “Diamond” heel for Spring ’23.

Stuart Weitzman

Hot on the heels of announcing Kim Kardashian as his new campaign star, Stuart Weitzman wants to make his fashion ambitions known. The brand has returned to Milan with a collection that revisits its best-selling boots, high-impact platforms and sculptural heels. At the same time, he continues to focus on versatile styles that can be worn all day.

Santoni

The brand’s iconic double buckle is the star of the season, transforming into a gold or silver plate on the calfskin loafers and an ornamental pattern on the clog mule. The embellishment also shines on bright sandals in blue, green and yellow. The double buckle sneaker conveys a more contemporary feel.

The double buckle was the star of Santoni’s Spring-Summer 23 collection.

hogan

Long before the luxury sneaker craze took hold, Hogan was making high-end sneakers in 1986. Decades later, the brand is reinventing many of its best-known designs for Spring 23. Taking inspiration from the Fashion’s genderless movement, the brand tilts “H630” basketball-inspired low and high kicks. A honey-coloured sole draws the silhouette. The H bag also gets an update in new colors and materials.

Hogan updated his classic sneakers and H Bag.

Furla

The brand introduced a crossbody clutch called Metropolis Remix, a knot-shaped calfskin bag, as part of its new partnership with “She is the Music,” a non-profit organization founded by Alicia Keys to increase the number of women working in the music industry.

Furla’s Metropolis Remix sent a bigger message about music.

AGL

Innovative fabrics, exaggerated embellishments and extreme shapes define the AGL Spring ’23 collection. From studs to crystals to leather flowers, accents are key. Bold hues, from red to hot pink to gold, give the styles an extra edge.

Unusual fabrics are present in AGL’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection.

Rodon

As Rodo continues its return to the American market, the brand is drawing on its archives for Spring 23. The mini bag, for example, is reinterpreted as a shoulder strap version for the evening, with a jeweled chain. Details from the bag collection can be found in the shoes – with sandals and pumps embellished with gold, crystal and ruthenium. The leather platforms are trimmed with soft metallic tassels.

Geox

Already known for its comfort and breathability, Geox wants to further conquer the dress market. As it continues to have new sneakers in its collection, the brand is focusing on its more stylish looks for Spring 23. Ssandals, ballerinas, pumps and moccasins come in a variety of feminine colors. The outerwear offering includes new colorful trench coats and parkas.

The brand is emphasizing its dressy looks for Spring 23.

Pollini

Pollini’s archive models are revisited: the Cavaliere ankle boot is adorned with fringes and the cremino sole, cornerstone of the Archive collection, is fashioned into a new sandal. For the evening, prints and sequin embroidery adorn the iconic mules, new platforms and flat sandals.

Fratelli Rossetti

As it prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2023, the brand is emphasizing its artisanal and local know-how (each shoe is made near Milan) and new eco-responsible models. As part of its new “GreenSide” project, Fratelli Rossetti pushes sustainable design into its best-known look, the Brera loafer, which features a suede upper made from recycled materials.

I recently attended a celebratory family gathering and amidst the commotion of greetings from family members, my eyes were immediately drawn to four pairs of feet in particular.

My brother, sister-in-law, niece, and nephew each proudly sported their own pair of Crocs, a shoe that I thought was long forgotten, if not hated, by most people. I couldn’t help staring at their feet as I recalled my elementary school days, when I too was proud to show off my pair of red Crocs, adorned with custom charms that fit perfectly in the quintessential perforations throughout the design of the shoe. These charms – I recently learned – are called Jibbitz, by the way. My brother swears by the comfort of Crocs and even gifted our mom a pair last Christmas. It got me thinking, “Did I miss something? What else don’t I know about the controversial shoe at the center of the fashion debate? »

It turns out Crocs has reclaimed a place in the shoe world. The shoes have become a multi-generational footwear staple for many and the brand has collaborated with a range of celebrities including Post Malone, Justin Bieber and Luke Combs. Crocs are also Amazon’s best-selling shoes, according to Today. The brand has even collaborated with haute couture giant Balenciaga – the two companies’ design visions merged to create the “Balenciaga HardCrocs”.

Sales of the shoe have soared during the pandemic, and in the first quarter of 2021 Crocs saw an almost 65% increase in sales, the BBC reported. I can see why the pandemic provided a solid foundation for the return of shoes, since many of us were not only shopping online while confined to our homes, but many of us also prioritized comfort. to our typical style. It was time for Crocs to shine.

Although the pandemic has presented a unique opportunity for Crocs, they seem to have maintained their upward trajectory, offering a variety of styles for different ages, niches, seasons, and even different professions. Their “Crocs At Work” line features footwear for chefs, hospital workers, and even slip-resistant footwear.

In fact, browsing through their website, it seems the brand has a line for every occasion. And I mean all occasion, however obscure. Crocs had a past collaboration with Hidden Valley Ranch — which sold out, according to their website — and recently released its 7-Eleven x Crocs collection. It’s not just a behind-the-scenes collaboration – the partnership is clearly reflected in the final product.

On a more traditional note, Crocs’ Disney Hocus Pocus collection, which “reappears for a limited time” according to their website, strategically coincides with the upcoming sequel, “Hocus Pocus 2,” just in time for the spooky season.

The shoes are seemingly everywhere, and not just in Crocs stores and online. They can be found on the shelves of retailers such as DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse, Famous Footwear, Scheels and more.

So, it looks like I’m the one who’s late. Crocs shakes up the footwear world, culturally and financially. The company recently ranked third on Forbes’ list of America’s Best Employers for Women. Whether or not I overcome my aversion to the shoes themselves, Crocs will continue. Quite successful, it seems. The company has made $2.1 billion in revenue so far this year, according to Forbes. I might dip my toes in the water and ask my brother for a pair this Christmas – we’ll see.

Shares of Liberty Shoes hit a more than four-year high of Rs 226.10 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), as the stock jumped 17% in intraday trading on Wednesday, amid heavy volumes in an otherwise weak market. The shoe company’s stock listed at its highest level since August 2018.

As of 12:38 p.m., the stock was trading up 15% at 222.15 rupees, against a 0.70% drop in the Nifty 50. Average trading volumes over the counter tripled today with almost 2 .75 million shares, representing 16 percent of Liberty Shoes’ total equity, having changed hands on the NSE up to the time of this writing, exchange data shows. The names of the buyers and sellers could not immediately be determined.

As of June 30, 2022, individual shareholders held 5.29 million shares, or 31.02% of the stake in Liberty Shoes, according to shareholding data. Geofin Investments Private Limited, the promoter group company, held 4.47 million shares, or 26.25%, owning the company, according to the data.
