Bad Bunny stars in the June issue of GQ (c) Roe Ethridge/GQ)

The 28-year-old rap star – whose real name is Benito Ocasio – isn’t sure what defines ‘masculine’ or ‘feminine’ and can’t discriminate between clothing choices based on gender.

He said: “Everyone has to feel comfortable with who they are and how they feel. For example, what defines a man, what defines being masculine , what defines being feminine? I really can’t give clothes a gender. For me, a dress is a dress. If I wear a dress, would it cease to be a woman’s dress? Or vice versa? Like, no. It’s a dress, and that’s it. It’s not a man, it’s not a woman. It’s a dress.

The Latin singer – who worked packing groceries in a Puerto Rico supermarket before rising to fame and becoming Spotify’s most streamed artist of 2021 with 9.1 billion plays worldwide – went on to say that becoming a celebrity had never been his intention and explained that his native audience would generally “underestimate” Latino musicians who sang in their own language.

In a new cover for GQ’s June issue, he said: “I was never on a mission to say, Oh, I’m going to do this. It just happened naturally. Like, I don’t I’ve never made a song saying, ‘This is going to go all over the world.’ I’ve never made a song thinking, “Man, this is for the world. It’s to capture the gringo audience. Never. On the contrary, I make songs like only Puerto Ricans are going to listen to them. I still think I’m here to make music, and it’s for Puerto Ricans. I forget that the whole world listens to me.

“Latino audiences would always underestimate their artist. Sometimes Latinos would want to record with an American, and because they’re American, they’d think, I have to do it. No, man. He’s not at the level that I am , you know? Just because they’re American. But that perspective has changed. You can see it now. People have taken notice. They suddenly see, Wow, Bad Bunny is the most listened to on Spotify for 70 days. C It’s not the American. It’s this guy, who’s Latino.

  • Old Navy started selling women’s clothing in sizes XS to 4X.
  • However, the move left customers frustrated and sales plummeted as the medium sizes sold out quickly.

Last year, Old Navy decided to start selling clothing for women of all body shapes, but its good intentions left many customers frustrated, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Many stores are selling medium-sized items much faster than extra-small or extra-large ones, according to the newspaper.

This has left the Gap-owned chain with two big problems: irritated customers who can’t find what they want in their Cutand the stock he has to discount to sell.

One Old Navy client, 26-year-old speech therapist Sydney Bassard, told the Journal: “I’m not necessarily the thinnest. Sometimes it’s hard to find clothes that aren’t tight. I have to look at through a lot of sizes and then my size is not available.”

Another customer, Nicole Cueto, said she has struggled to find her size for the past few months. “They mostly have larger sizes and sell small sizes,” she told the Journal. “It’s super frustrating.”

Nancy Green, CEO of Old Navy, told Vogue last year: “After intensive research where we spent time listening, learning and walking in the shoes of our customers, it was clear that there was an opportunity to do more to meet their needs and ensure that every woman sees herself in our brand.”

She said the BODEQUALITY initiative has transformed its operations and reinforced the chain’s “belief in style democracy”.

The Gap-owned retailer accounts for far more of the company’s sales and profits than the Difference and Banana Republic channels.

According to The Journal, Don Howard of Alvanon, who works with brands and retailers on sizing and fit, the average American woman is now size 18, down from size 14 just 5 years ago.

Old Navy would have counted on National Center for Health Statistics data to develop its understood sizing as well as its own research. The Center found that women aged 20 and over weighed an average of 170.8 pounds in 2016.

The company scanned nearly 400 female bodies to create digital avatars and build new fit blocks for sizes 20 to 28.

Clothing brands have long tried to provide sizes for all morphologiesto like Good American, Veronica Beard or Universal Standard. But other big names like Victoria’s Secret have also embraced size inclusion in add more rangesThe Journal reported.

Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg told the newspaper’s Future of Everything festival on Wednesday: “If you’re a size 2 and if you’re a size 16, you’re not using the same amount of fabric.”

She added: “You also don’t want to penalize the little people [who would be] pay more because the price must be the same. It can be very controversial to talk about it. But I think it’s important.”

But many of us also feel strapped for time, a bit insecure, and overwhelmed with choices for years.

“The idea of having a personal stylist and doing it all in one fell swoop, and just having help and advice from someone with an expert eye and an objective opinion really appeals to people, especially at this time of year. [the change of season],” she says.

Bradley Lauten, director of David Jones’ personal style suite, agrees. There are months of waiting for styling sessions at Sydney’s Elizabeth Street store and the Bourke Street store in Melbourne.

“It eliminates shopping anxiety for some people,” he says. “Especially in a store our size and with the ability to choose from so many brands.”

The men are also getting in on the action. While the core clientele remains women, Mackinnon and Lauten say more and more male clients are embracing expert opinion.

“Certainly more businessmen are coming, but also the husband [who] doesn’t like to shop, so his wife will bring him over,” Lauten says.

And, quite simply, that makes it fun. Why spend hours in the store looking for the right size, color or fit when you can call on the experts?

Why consult a personal stylist?

It’s been 15 years since my brief stint as a fashion journalist, and in that time I’ve grown and nurtured two babies, developed a roller coaster relationship with running and gyms, and lived through a pandemic in the city the most closed in the world. .

Tired of hearing me complain about my wardrobe of WFH leggings, tank tops, and long cardigans, my husband is booking me a two-hour session with a personal stylist to mark a milestone birthday. There is no turning back now.

I meet Guergues in a cafe for a little chat before we go shopping. I have already completed an email questionnaire: obvious questions include my age, height, dress size and body type.

Personal stylist Sally Mackinnon says demand for her stylists is at an all time high.

But she also wants to know if there are any parts of my body I’d like to hide or minimize (tum/bum), where I usually shop (lately, online), and if I’ve had a celebrity crush (ah, no!) . We discuss my wish list (smart casual pieces that can be mixed and matched for work, play and the park) and my budget (my credit card limit!).

Soon I’m dragging Guergues as she browses through racks of coats and blazers, corporate skirts and shirts, and playground-appropriate jeans and T-shirts, looking at me now and then. to check a size, before going to the locker room.

Loading

Guergues says she’ll know right away if I don’t like something, and that’s true. I’m not straight-faced, and while I’m willing to try anything, I quickly take off most clothes with puffy sleeves, high collars, or anything that means I’ll have to tuck my stomach in. all day.

But I say yes to many. A blush colored wool coat, paired with my first pair of non-skinny jeans in a long time and a basic white t-shirt is my new favorite outfit. I’m surprised to find a mustard blazer that matches my color, and I swirl in delight in a hot pink maxi skirt.

A tight knit skirt is too tight for comfort in my usual size 10 but Guergues advises me to try a larger size and it’s perfect. I learn that it doesn’t matter that it is designed to fit differently on the dummy.

And we spend about 10 minutes rolling up the sleeves and playing around with ways to tie or tuck a soft cotton striped shirt into pants and a skirt for different looks.

How to get the most out of a personal shopping experience

  • Wear your best flesh-colored bra and underwear, comfortable shoes, good deodorant and a touch of makeup
  • Have a list of what you want to buy, in order of priority
  • Ask about discounts at select stores
  • Set a budget and make sure your stylist knows it

I part with $1,500 in the first boutique after receiving the stylist’s 25% discount (which, by the way, more than covers her fees) and we move on.

We visit two other stores, discuss my new purchases and particular pieces that might need another top or pair of shoes to create a different look. I buy a pair of black leather loafers that fit perfectly in the store, but are actually way too tight. I swap them the following week for a larger size.

I spend another $500 before quitting long before our two hours are up. I have about six new outfits that I can mix and match and a new excitement about getting dressed in the morning.

As one of the country’s top models, Helen Connor used to date famous people.

But nothing could prepare her for the first time the Queen walked into the London studio where she worked.

Helen laughs at that special occasion decades ago as she relaxes in a chair in the garden gazebo at the Rectory Care Home in Taunton, where she now lives.

She says: “I was very nervous and almost fainted when she called me Helen.

“The Queen used to come to where I was modeling and I met her several times.

“She was so sweet and kind.

“I’ve never met her socially, just through my work.

“She called me Helen, but I had to call her Madame.

“I didn’t speak to her unless she spoke to me first.”

The Queen’s visit was for her to be able to check out the clothes worn by Helen and the other models and to select what she wanted to buy.

“She was like, ‘How’s that, Helen? “Recalls the former model, now 88 years old.

“She touched the clothes I was wearing and thought she was buying.

“It was good that she came to the place where I worked.

“But I got used to it. It was our job.

“When you’re a model, that’s what you do. You walk up and down and show people clothes.

“She was a nice woman who came to buy clothes and she happened to be the queen.

“It was lovely meeting her. It seems a little weird to think about, but she has her clothes on like everyone else.

“But they were beautiful and spectacular days.

“It would be nice to see the Queen again, but I shouldn’t think she would remember me.”

Helen, who also met Princess Margaret on at least one occasion, was initially trained to be a scientist, earning £4 a week in London.

“Then an agent came and asked me how much I made,” adds Helen.

“I looked at him because it was a bit of a rude question, but he said I could make a lot more money as a model.

“It was a wonderful moment. Everyone had such glamorous clothes on.”

Helen was in high demand for modeling assignments in her heyday and a picture of her taken by one of the era’s top snappers, Norman Parkinson, appeared on the cover of Vogue.

She later moved to Wincanton and has more recently lived happily in Taunton.

A confirmed royalist and patriot, she looks forward to a platinum jubilee party with her fellow residents and staff at Rectory Care Home.

Dame Deborah James has revealed she has designed a range of clothing which will be available to shoppers later this year. The cancer activist, who is at home receiving end-of-life care, took to Instagram to share a piece from the collection on Thursday (May 19).

BBC podcaster Dame Deborah says she has been working on the collection for several months with In The Style. Although the main collection “isn’t quite ready yet”, she says there are already “a whole series of beautiful floral dresses” – including one she wore for her visit from Prince William to return her the Queen’s honor on Saturday (May 14).

The latest piece she posted to her Instagram account – to share with her 780,000 followers – is a t-shirt with “Rebel Hope” printed on it. From now on, the T-shirt is available for purchase, she announced, from this link, 100% of profits going to Cancer Research UK.

In her post, she wrote, “I’m so excited to finally be able to share (at least part of) a project I’ve been working on for several months now. With the @inthestyle I created and designed a collection of beautiful clothes for all of us to look good and feel good!!!

“The main collection isn’t quite ready yet, although some of you may have noticed recently that I’ve been wearing a whole slew of beautiful floral dresses – which I can confirm have been worn on my visit from Prince William!

“I can’t tell you how this partnership got me through my hospital stays and kept me away from cancer. For years I always talked about ‘Dressing to Feel Better’ and for the past few months, all the ups and downs, going in and out of the hospital, dressing up in nice clothes and putting on Lippy has made a difference in my journey.

“Today, however, as a sneak peek, I wanted to share something really special….. As you all know, I’ve always had a quote close to my heart…”Rebellious Hope” so @inthestyle have kindly agreed with me to release an exclusive limited edition T-shirt in aid of @bowelbabefund which can be ordered through the @inthestyle app NOW, with 100% of the profits (minimum £7.08 per t-shirt) from the sale of each going directly to the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK.

She adds, “I’m so thankful for the wonderful @inthestyle team and all of you for your support so far! I added a link to the tshirt on my stories.

I can’t wait (or sadly I’ll leave my family and ITS) to share the rest of the collection, which I’m also delighted to say the plan for this collection is that all proceeds will be in aid of the Bowelbabe Fund for research on cancer in the UK. Know that I had so much fun designing and organizing everything and I hope you have as much fun wearing it x”

For the past five years, Dame Deborah has been undergoing treatment for stage 4 bowel cancer. She has raised the profile of the disease by working on the You, Me and The Big C podcast for the BBC and writing newspaper articles for The Sun, among others.

But on May 9, she announced that the treatments she was undergoing were no longer effective. Her medical team and her family decided, with her, to move to her parents in Woking, Surrey. She has currently raised over £5million for cancer research in a fundraiser launched when she announced she was receiving end-of-life care.

As inflation soars, few parents have enough money to buy children’s clothes, that’s why mylittleoutfit.com was created in the first place: to offer parents a place to donate or buy gently used clothes.

Courtney Fishman did some math when she launched her “gently worn” clothing business online.

First, she looked at how much parents spend and found research that indicates children grow six sizes, on average, in their first two years.

“$1,300 a year just for clothes. That’s 6% of what it costs to raise a child,” she said.

Tens of millions of tons go to landfills, she says. And many are designer brands: Ralph Lauren, Bloomingdales, Burberry.

MyLittleOutfit.com allows parents to donate clothing while purchasing similar (gently used) clothing at a much better price.

This has been a boon for some as inflation soars.

Her stuff is picked, mixed and matched by a fashion expert, so parents don’t have to do it themselves.

“We do all one price, which is $15 for the whole outfit,” she said.

She said it can provide savings of 70-90%.

In return, customers receive a postage paid bag, and a choice to make:

“Do I want to keep these clothes for my child? Or do I want to offer this credit to women in shelters for shopping? ” she says.

Alex Firestone is a single mother whose daughter Rory has scored some great outfits – a free shopping spree courtesy of the site.

“We’re on the receiving end, which is amazing,” she said.

by Sarah Wilson Harvest the house This is where Firestone got his outfits. It is a shelter for homeless pregnant women. That’s where mylittleoutfit.com clothes go when Fishman customers choose to donate their clothes instead of keeping them.

She says shopping sprees give mums a sense of dignity and self-respect that they don’t always get charity gifts.

“These are really nice outfits and things that people would buy in a store,” said Sarah Wilson, executive director of Harvest Home Shelter.

It’s an option that saves money, saves time, saves the planet and helps children in need.

In April, a shipment of clothing destined for Ohio was detained after a thorough examination determined the contents to be counterfeit women’s dresses, shawls and panties. A total of 1,120 pieces of clothing were seized by CBP because they violated the intellectual property rights (IPRs) of the brands Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Apple. The CBP Trade specialist at the Consumer Products Mass Merchandising Center determined that the counterfeit garments, if real, had a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) value of $2,372,490.00.

“CBP is responsible for enforcing trade laws, and we continue to devote substantial resources to target, intercept, detain, seize and confiscate cargo shipments that violate these laws,” said Mark J Laria, regional port manager. of CBP, Norfolk, VA.

IPR violations relate to products that infringe US trademarks, copyrights and patents. Other violations may include misclassification of goods, false country of origin markings, health and safety issues, and valuation issues. These violations can threaten the health and safety of US consumers, the economy, and national security.

CBP data indicates that handbags, wallets, clothing, shoes, watches, jewelry and consumer electronics are at a higher risk of being counterfeited. Counterfeit versions of popular brands are regularly sold in online marketplaces and flea markets.

The quality of goods that agents ban in Cincinnati are inferior to the original quality sold by legitimate manufacturers. Purchasing low-quality products from third-party sellers online is dangerous and exposes buyers to security risks. CBP suggests paying close attention to the quality of items purchased and looking for printing errors, cheap packaging, poor quality materials used, and below-average prices. These are all signs that the items purchased could be fake.

Consumers can take simple steps to protect themselves and their families from counterfeit products:

  • Buy products directly from the brand owner or from authorized retailers.

  • When shopping online, read seller reviews and look for a working US phone number and address that can be used to contact the seller.

  • See CBP’s E-Commerce Counterfeit Awareness Guide for Consumers.

  • Remember, if a product’s price seems too good to be true, it probably is.

  • Play it safe and buy mom the real deal for her special day!

To report suspected infringements, visit CBP’s e-Allegations online portal or call 1-800-BE-ALERT. More information about counterfeit products can be found on CBP’s Fake Goods, Real Dangers website and on StopFakes.gov.
