Carrefour will test the sale of second-hand clothes in its Spanish stores

The French supermarket giant Carrefour is experimenting with an initiative in its two stores in Madrid and Barcelona. If successful, the project will be extended to several of its branches throughout Spain. In order to promote the recycling of clothes, the hypermarkets in these two cities sell second-hand clothes.

More than 4,000 items of clothing have already been moved to a new home since the plan was launched this summer. This device was produced in collaboration with Patapam, the company expert in the circular economy. First checked for health and safety requirements, these items for men, women, children and babies have all been sold to the public.

This initiative is part of ‘The Fashion Pact ‘, which was signed by the Carrefour group in 2019. It has also been agreed by various companies, to help reduce the footprint left by players in the fashion industry.

Over the next ten years, Carrefour has a program that includes a commitment to ensure that all of its TEX-branded clothing will be sustainable. They also plan to ensure that by 2025 at least 50% of its TEX cotton items will be eco-friendly and that all of its clothing lines will ensure animal welfare.

Recycled materials are already used in the manufacturing processes of their products, a system that therefore consumes less water and energy. Plans are also underway to reduce the use of paper and plastic in all packaging of their TEX products. Since 2019, this has already saved 116 tons of plastic and 255 tons of paper, as reported surinenglish.com.
