Arunachal Wins 8 Medals at National Powerlifting Championship
ITANAGAR, September 19: Arunachal won five gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the National Benchpress and Deadlift Powerlifting Championship, which ended in Jammu on Sunday.
Tedo Kino picked up a gold medal in the bench press and deadlift events, and won the title of “Power Man of India” in the junior category.
Competing in the 56kg weight class, Kino lifted 95kg in the bench press and 170kg in the deadlift, team leader Kengam Doke informed.
Among the senior women, Takio Yana Tagru (56 kg) also pocketed two gold medals, one in the bench press and one in the deadlift.
She lifted 35 kg in the bench press and 110 kg in the deadlift, and became the first female weightlifter in the state to win gold medals in the bench press and deadlift in a national championship.
Ongbem Mossang won a gold and a silver medal in the junior category.
Competing in the under 52 kg weight class, Mossang won gold in the bench press with a lift of 75 kg. He had to settle for the silver medal after lifting 160 kg in the deadlift.
Rade Rallen won silver and bronze in the deadlift and bench press respectively in the senior 90kg category.
He lifted 180.5 kg in the deadlift and 90 kg in the bench press.
